Common questions
What is GB Rail Training?
GB Rail Training is a rail knowledge assessment platform. Staff complete online safety and behavioural assessments. Managers see assessment results, identify weak areas and decide who needs further development.
What do the assessments cover?
Personal Track Safety (PTS), including PTS AC (alternating current), Controller of Site Safety (COSS), Individual Working Alone (IWA), DC Conductor Rail (DCCR), Person in Charge of Possession (PICOP), Senior Person in Charge of Possession (SPICOP), Engineering Supervisor, Site Warden, Lookout, Line Clear Verification (LCV), Designated Person, Protection Controller and Possession Support. Auxiliary Operating Duties (AOD) assessments cover Level Crossing Attendant, Point Operator and Hand Signaller. Behavioural assessments follow the Rail Behavioural Safety Assessment (RBSA). Each assessment uses scenario-based questions.
Is it free?
You can start a free 7-day trial. After the trial, the Monthly plan costs £6.25 per user each month. The Annual plan costs £60 per user each year. That is £5.00 a month, billed once a year.
Does it replace my rail training?
No. These are knowledge assessments and revision. They do not replace the formal training and assessment that your sponsor or training provider requires.
What can managers see?
Managers see scores, weak areas, behavioural profiles and re-test dates for each person. They can use this to plan development and support before staff do higher-risk work.

At around 20:30 on 15 March 2025, two track workers near Port Glasgow station were struck by a wagon being propelled by a rail-mounted crane. One was seriously injured. RAIB Report 03/2026 identified failures in radio communications, lighting, and COSS briefing compliance.
